Why playing indoors might be safer than the front lawn
In a time where nostalgia seems to be in high demand, stories of friendship and camaraderie have never had a better time than now to make a comeback. Likely based on familiarity and relativity, a large demographic of moviegoers fall into the 25 – 40 age bracket, the notion of banding together with friends for an adventure fills that void not felt since their own childhood and teenage years. Netflix original series, Stranger Things, is a prime example of taking a prominent decade and bringing us back to being a pre-teen. Simplistic coming-of-age trademarks such as exploring relationships, seeking out adventure and danger, geeking out with close friends and the most of important of all childhood elements that is usually lost on adults…the power to make-believe. Tapping into that power and mixing it up with great acting, great story, and some seriously decent visual effects, make for compelling viewing. The same can be said with the 2017 release of IT: Chapter One and the upcoming Chapter Two in 2019. Take a band of kids, put them in horrific situations, and let their humanity prevail as they work together to overcome evil – or in essence, the dangerous world awaiting them in adulthood. It is no surprise that filmmakers will seek to keep this momentum going and that brings us to a film by RKSS: Summer of ‘84.
