Man Shoots Girlfriend During Fight Over ‘The Walking Dead’

December 5, 2012 by Brandon Gentry 1 Comment

Early on Monday morning, a Williston, New York couple began to argue over AMC’s, The Walking Dead. Around 2:30 a.m., the argument escalated, and the man shot his girlfriend with a .22 caliber rifle. He later tried to say the event was an accident, but eventually confessed.

Ok, it’s cool to be passionate about horror, people — who among us isn’t?

But this is extreme and super sad.

The couple, like many horror fans do, were fighting over whether a zombie apocalypse is be possible. The shooter, 26-year-old Jared Gurman, stated he believed a “military mishap” could cause zombies to be produced in today’s world and his girlfriend disagreed.

According to NBC New York, the shot hit the girlfriend’s back, causing damage to her spine, ribs, and a lung.

Our thoughts are with this poor girl. Maybe she’ll make a speedy recovery and try not to get revenge by nailing her (hopefully) ex-boyfriend’s junk to a board and digging out his eye with a spoon. *cough* Michonne.

Three All New SyFy Reality Series Receive Greenlight

November 28, 2012 by Brandon Gentry No Comments

Marking the significant expansion of its popular reality programming, today an announcement was made greenlighting three  new SyFy reality series: Ghost Mine, Stranded and Notorious Hauntings. This slate builds upon Syfy’s popular paranormal reality programming block led by Ghost Hunters, Paranormal Witness and Haunted Collector.

More reality series? NO WAY!

In making the announcement, Mark Stern, President, Original Content for Syfy and Co-head, Original Content for Universal Cable Productions, said: “Each of these series takes a known and successful formula and turns it on its head. Whether it is eclectic gold miners in the midst of paranormal activity, paranormal enthusiasts self-documenting the most haunted locations in America, or investigators researching and examining history’s most notorious criminals and legends in the world’s most haunted locations, these shows celebrate imagination while further strengthening Syfy’s successful reality brand.”

GHOST MINE – Premieres Wednesday, January 16 at 10PM

Forgotten in the remote woods of Oregon is one of the richest gold mines in the United States that was abandoned 80 years ago when a series of tragedies gave it an infamous reputation for being haunted. Now, a new owner has decided to take on the notorious legend and reopen the mine, assembling a colorful team of miners – both seasoned and new – to battle the elements in hopes of finding their fortune and teaming them with a pair of experienced paranormal investigators.

In each of the six hour-long episodes, this strong-willed and historically superstitious group of miners will face the day-to-day challenges of mining, aided by the paranormal investigators who unravel the mysteries surrounding the mine, including historic Masonic connections and a spirit who has been known to haunt the area for generations.

Ghost Mine is produced by 51 Minds, an Endemol company, with Mark Cronin (Rock of Love with Bret Michaels), David Caplan and Jay Bluemke (Ghost Hunters, Ghost Hunters Academy) serving as Executive Producers.

STRANDED – Premieres Wednesday, February 27 at 10PM

Ping Pong Productions (Destination Truth, Finding Bigfoot) joins forces with Josh Gates (star of Syfy’s travel-adventure series Destination Truth) and Jason Blum’s Blumhouse (Paranormal Activity, The River) to create Stranded, an all-new six-episode reality series that documents an unconventional – and terrifying – paranormal and psychological experiment. Each hour-long episode features the self-recorded footage of a diverse group of every-day paranormal enthusiasts – from newlyweds and a brother-in-law to a trio of roommates. Each team of three will be stranded at one of the most haunted locations in America and record the entire experience with hand-held cameras.

The footage from the subjects’ cameras will be supplemented by strategically-placed security cameras at each location, creating a suspenseful, completely unscripted first-hand account of each group’s stay. Over the course of the confinement, the subjects contend with increasingly pervasive feelings of fear and desolation, resulting in an experiment that represents a unique combination of psychology and the paranormal.

Stranded is executive-produced by Brad Kuhlman, Casey Brumels and Josh Gates (who also serves as showrunner) for Ping Pong Productions and Jason Blum for Blumhouse (the production company behind the Paranormal Activity feature film franchise and movies like Insidious and Sinister). Gerard Bocaccio who heads up Blumhouse TV will be a consultant on the project.

NOTORIOUS HAUNTINGS (Working Title) – Premieres Spring 2013

Produced by Pilgrim Studios – the company behind Syfy’s Ghost Hunters, the most successful paranormal franchise on cable – Notorious Hauntings features a group of researchers who investigate reports of extreme and dangerous supernatural activity across the globe. In each of the six self-contained episodes, viewers will follow the investigators as they not only research the otherworldly activity at each site, but also explore the gruesome history of the infamous and heinous individuals, their crimes and victims, to determine if they are the cause of the present-day haunting. Through the gathering of evidence and the uncovering of little-known history, Notorious Hauntings will explore some of the world’s most enduring mysteries, including the case of Jack the Ripper in London and the legendary Dracula in Romania and Slovakia.

Notorious Hauntings is produced by Pilgrim Studios with Craig Piligian and Mike Nichols serving as Executive Producers.

What do you guys think? Any of these sound good?

NBC Reimagines TV Classic ‘Munsters’ as ‘Mockingbird Lane’

October 22, 2012 by Brandon Gentry No Comments

As Halloween nears, NBC turns Friday, October 26 into Fright Night when it premieres the pilot of the much-anticipated “Mockingbird Lane” (8-9 p.m. ET) — based on executive producer Bryan Fuller’s script and directed by executive producer Bryan Singer.  The special program leads into a haunting “La Llorona” Halloween episode of “Grimm” (9-10 p.m. ET).

“Mockingbird Lane” is a newly reimagined version of the classic 1960s comedy “The Munsters,” now as a visually spectacular one-hour drama with a darker edge and tone.  The Mockingbird Lane cast includes Jerry O’Connell as Herman Munster, Portia de Rossi as his wife Lily, Eddie Izzard as Grandpa, Mason Cook as Eddie and Charity Wakefield as Marilyn.

Following “Mockingbird Lane,” NBC’s acclaimed drama series “Grimm” debuts a special Halloween episode, “La Llorona.” In this episode, detectives Nick Burkhardt (David Giuntoli) and Hank Griffin (Russell Hornsby) take on the other worldly predator, believed to be “La Llorona,” which has abducted some of Portland’s children on Halloween.  Kate del Castillo — star of Telemundo’s hit miniseries “La Reina del Sur” guest-stars as Valentina Espinosa, a mysterious detective from New Mexico on an obsessive mission to uncover the truth behind the bizarre disappearances and joins forces with Burkhardt and Griffin to intervene before it’s too late.

Reports are that the fate of Mockingbird Lane lies in the success of this pilot episode, so if this is a show you’d like to see stick around, you better get your ass in front of the boob-tube this Friday!

The Walking Dead Season 3 Premier: Badass!

October 15, 2012 by Chad Butrum 1 Comment

Wow… Was that a premier, or what!?

James and I attended a viewing party for the premier of AMC’s The Walking Dead season 3 at a local brewery with about 100 or so other zombie lovers and the atmosphere was energetic to say the least.  There’s nothing better than participating in something you’re passionate about with other people that just get it.

The adrenaline started pumping during the countdown and it didn’t stop till I went to bed.  If this first episode is telling of the season to come, we’re all in for one awesome ride.   Just the opening scene alone let us know that we were in for a thrill ride.  Rick’s a badass, Carl’s becoming a badass, Daryl has always been a badass, and even T-dog is being groomed for badassdom.  It’s no secret how much James and I love The Walking Dead, but I think we all can agree that season 2 was lacking something.  Whether it was due to all the drama behind the scenes surrounding Frank Darabont’s departure  or if it was just an attempt to build character development, our thirst for zombie carnage was never quite quenched.  Although, I feel readers of the comic dealt with season 2 a little better only due to the fact that we seemed to understand what they were trying to do.  Herschel’s farm was a major plot point in the comic, I just don’t think it translated to screen very well….

“…even T-dog is being groomed for badassdom.”

Season 3 Episode 1, titled “Seed,” changed everything… I haven’t had that much fun watching a television show since I watched a 24 hour marathon of ’24.’  (oh man, my brain just went to an awesomely dark place where Jack Bauer is breaking zombie necks and saving the world from apocalypse.)  I can’t think of anything that would have made “Seed” better.  Maybe a little more Michonne and Andrea, but their time will come.  Whether you are familiar with Robert Kirkman’s phenomenal comic or not, they set it up to be one helluva season.  The great thing about The Walking Dead is you don’t need to know anything about the comic to enjoy it, but there are still plenty of plot points to satisfy the comic geeks.   It’s very hard for episodic television to keep up this kind of pace, but if they even come close to it… oh man, I don’t even know what to say.  While season 1 was fantastic and Season 2 had its moments, I’d have to say “Seed” is definitely my favorite episode so far.  Damn, it was awesome… I don’t even know what else to say.  Let the Ricktatorship begin!

‘Simpsons: Treehouse of Horror XXIII’ Poster Released

September 21, 2012 by Brandon Gentry 2 Comments
SIMPSONS Treehouse of Horror XIII

Fox has just released the movie-esque poster for the annual Simpsons: Treehouse of Horror Halloween special. In the Simpsons’ 24th season (yes, we are that old), this is the 23rd edition of Treehouse for Springfield’s favorite family.

The episode, traditionally split into multiple horror segments (à la classic horror television) has a short this year created after my own heart — Bart Simpson will travel back in time in a Back to the Future spoof! Yes! Instead of getting his parents together, he will travel back to the ’70s in an attempt to prevent them from ever hooking up.

Sounds phenomenal.

Check out the poster below. Note that it is filmed in “Pain-A-Vision.”
