Mexican artist José Rodolfo Loaiza Ontiveros has given many beloved Disney characters a not-so-flattering modern update in his recent gallery show, aptly called Disasterland. Mixing the characters’ classic likenesses with un-healthy doses of pop culture, genre film, drug, alcohol and sexual perversity he has painted the timeless icons in a socially satirical fashion. The depictions are as funny as they are disturbing and as cool as they are thought-provoking.
This show of almost sold out pieces can be viewed in person at the La Luz de Jesus Gallery directed by Matt Kennedy in Hollywood or online here. Horror and genre film fans should not miss checking out Blood Forest, Never Sleep Again or Grindhouse Esmeralda. The images speak for themselves.
